Anniversary

Today was the fortieth anniversary of Humanae Vitae. As Curt Jester says in his analysis, Paul VI was truly prophetic in this work. Mary Eberstadt writes of the vindication this much reviled document.

I have often been disturbed by the level of contempt heaped upon Paul VI by many traditionalists. This document shows his clarity of thought and his singular courage. He published this document in the face of opposition of all the bishops. This document has gone on to become a key element of the true Catholic identity, and you know that because it is one that all the dissidents universally attack. For this document alone we owe Paul VI a tremendous debt of gratitude.
