SSPX

By now I imagine any reader will know that the excommunications of the four SSPX bishops has been lifted. Hopefully this will lead, ultimately, to their return.

As I predicted in a few other comboxes, at least one local station which noticed the news ran a headline "Pope lifts excommunication of four Bishops despite one of them denying the Holocaust." At least they didn't mention Benedict being a former member of the Hitler Youth and tie the two events together.

Fellay, the head of the SSPX issued a statement about Williamson's recent denial of the Holocaust, in which he accused the reporter of acting in bad faith by asking Williamson a question about history when the interview was supposed to be about religion, and then went on to say that a bishop's statements are only competent when he speaks about matters of faith. When speaking about anything else, a bishop can only speak his own opinion and for himself. This is true, but it won't wash. This is mud that will unfortunately stick for anyone who notices it.
