3.5 Timeouts Tuesday

What I did this summer edition.

We took a bunch of day trips, with a few overnighters on weekends, and saw several movies. So here's the best of them.

1.

Best day trip- innertubing down the the Grand River.  Keep your wild water fun parks, this is the kind of place they try and be.  Going down some white water, with calm interludes, through canyons with cliffs twenty metres high- now that's sweet.

2.

Best movie. We saw a bunch of super hero themed and animated movies.  Among others, we saw Amazing Spiderman (I was not amazed), Avengers (Joss Whedon directed, and it showed, but not in a good way)  Dark Knight Rises (I am not entirely certain what I think about this movie), Brave (disappointed.  Not up to Pixar's usual standards) And the best was... A movie whose name I can't remember.  It was a twenty minute short film we saw at Science North on fighting forest fires, produced by the Government.  I thought it would have stank, but the cinematography was of a high calibre, and the narration by Gordon Pinsent was a nice touch.  No monster in any of the other films made my heart race like the shot of an enormous forest fire with water bombers looking to be the size of insects flying in to fight it.

3.

Best drive.

We did a lot of driving, which is a bit of a penance for me.  I enjoy drives, the kids enjoy the destination, so wherever we go, I am sure to hear plenty of "Are we there yet?"  With that in mind, the best drive was probably the drive to and from Sudbury and Science North.  Driving through the Shield gives you some spectacular scenery.  I think I'll try it again in the fall.  Minus the kids.

3.5

Best trip, period.

Probably the weekend we spent fishing.  Somehow, you can go to a lot of places and do a lot of things, but just returning to the basics, slowing down and putting a line in the water generally seems to trump everything.

I could go on, and  have a bunch of runners up and honourable mentions, but this is only 3.5 timeouts.

The best vacations are the ones where you did the least. That's been my experience.

My 3.5 is up now, btw.

We did Science North two years ago. It was a great drive but we did it while vacationing in Parry Sound. (even better)
