Probably because I work in a university bookstore.
Y'know, ten or eleven years ago, when I finally got a full time position at this place, one of the few upsides that I could see at the time was that the job would be secure, because back then, a mere ten years ago, I ould not conceive of a time when a university would not need a bookstore. Now I expect the hatchet to fall almost daily. Was I just blind, to not see that this time would come, or was there just no stirrings that things would go this way so quickly?
If I had it all to do over again, I would skip university, and become a plumber. There seems to be a greater security to that job: as long as people crap, there will be a need for plumbers. Or perhaps technology is already at work trying to clear up that little problem.
