We had a pleasant surprise this weekend

Puff, Frodo and myself headed North this Sunday for a little ice cream and fishing.  (That part did not turn out so well.  It rained hard all day, so we never put a line in the water.). We stopped at a town on the way to attend Mass, and it was very nice.  They did what they were supposed to do.  The homilies delivered one of  the best homilies I have heard in months, and a small surprise:  the choir had just announced the Offertory hymn when the priest interrupted and said that, before the Offertory, there was a something he needed to do.  The local CWL had just paid for the re-gilding of the vessels, and he wished to reconsecrate them.  Out of the corner of my eye I saw Puff craning her neck to get a better look at this-  neither she nor I had ever seen this before.  The priest continued that these are not new vessels-  one was from about the 1880's, another from early twentieth, and a third from the fifties-  but with the new gilding, they were ready for more years of service.  He then said the blessing and consecration, which was short.  I saw one of the two older vessels.  It was gorgeous.

I was disappointed with the weather, but this made up for it.
