They shall grow not old

After coming through the main doors to St' Clare's church, there is a small set of stairs (5 steps, if memory serves) to climb before one goes through the inner doors into the Church proper. Beside the inner doors are two plaques, which are seldom noticed and less seldom read in the usual comings and goings of the church. This short post is dedicated to this one:



The plaque, as you can see, is only for the dead of the Second World War. In spite of the fact that the church was constructed around 1913, there is no plaque for the dead of the First World War. If there were, the list of names would be a little less than twice as long.

I try and look at this small, simple memorial every time I pass, and as I do I thank God that there were once men such as these.

At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
