Regarding the new mascot.

 Yeah, the mascot for the jubilee year is goofy,but some are claiming the figure is carrying a witch's staff.

A witch's staff has a Y at the top.  This part sticking out to the right is clearly a hook, making this staff the symbol of a pilgrim. It is the sort often shown in pictures of St Roche or St Rocco.

  Or you can try and explain why a saint would be carrying a witch's staff.
