The other day I was attending Mass at a parish not my own, (don't ask, I'm not saying which one) and the music there was, well, for lack of a better term, bad. I had a bit of a surprise when they announced they were going to sing the Our Father. I had a few seconds to wonder which setting they would use, as there are several, even in the vernacular. It turned out it was a setting I had never heard before. I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure they used the Our Father put to the tune of "On Moonlight Bay".
The choir also was singing the sort of music that our superiors tell us is what the people want, and yet, though the choir was large, almost nobody in the pews sang, not even the mumble singing we usually have.
