I seldom talk about Church affairs these days, in part because I find it so depressing, in part because I don't see much point, and in part because venting may be cathartic, and may even be fun, but it achieves nothing, except spreading anger to others.
However, as regards what some are calling the worst crisis in the history of the Church: we have always been in a state of crisis. We've had virtually nothing but trouble all the way down the line. We've had evil popes, bad bishops and lousy priests throughout our entire history. There is nothing new about that. The Church endured them. If I were to put my finger on the Worst Crisis in the History of the Church, I would say that would have occurred when the Church was just a few hours old, when, out of the first twelve bishops, one of them betrayed Our Lord, and the other eleven ran for it- one of them fleeing naked in his fear- and another one of them, who also happened to be the one put in charge of this whole mess, started swearing up and down that he never knew the Man. I don't think any subsequent crisis compares to that one. That was a crisis that nearly destroyed the Church before it even began, but the Church endured and was made stronger for it.
It is painful to live through times such as these, but we have muddled through before. Be of good cheer: our victory is assured, even- especially- in the very hours where all seems lost and the temptation to despair is everywhere.

No this does not compare to what has happened in the last century. Innocent children sexually abused for years by those in a position of trust. Even the nuns abused the children in the Residential Schools. Popes who knew what was happening and continued to sweep it under the rug. We know who has been in charge and his name is Satan.
