29 February 2008

I have been tagged

...by Sheepcat to reveal six irrelevant/unimportant facts/quirks/habits of myself. This is rather difficult, as there are days when it seems my entire life is irrelevant. But here goes:

1. I am a man. As men are generally considered irrelevant and/or useless in the current sociopolitical climate, this is most likely considered to be an irrelevant and/or useless fact. Although given the current emasculation of a great percentage of the population, perhaps being a man should be classified as a quirk.

2. Like Sheepcat, I am technologically behind. I have found life to be much cheaper to let other people by the high technology, then give it me when they buy a higher technology. My in-laws have a couple of big flatscreens that I have my eye on. I'm planning where to put them in about three years or so.

3. I have made over sixty pipes for my hypothetical organ. Only 300 or so more to go.

4. I am doing family research with a cousin and am writing a history of the family, focusing mainly on my line- grandfather, father, myself. It is tentatively titled "Losers."

5. In a very real way, I owe my love of literature to the "Conan" stories of Robert E. Howard- but only the stories by Robert E. Howard. In a related irrelevant fact, I have intense contempt for hacks who try to write stories about other people's characters, except for perhaps comic books, which are set up for that purpose.

6. I chose my university because it had a Creative Writing Program. I then proceeded to wash out of the program because I didn't write enough like James Joyce. In a related irrelevant fact, I have intense contempt for James Joyce and hacks who want to write like him. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Tag! You're it, and if you don't have a blog, answer in the combox. Unless you're Puff. She's exempt.

10 February 2008

Michael tagged us with the Middle Name Meme

First the rules:
1. You have to post the rules before you give your answers.
2. You must list one fact about yourself beginning with each letter of your middle name. (If you don't have a middle name, use your maiden name or your mother's maiden name).
3. At the end of your blog post, you need to tag one person for each letter of your middle name. (Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged.)

Okay.
Puff the Magic Dragon
My middle name is the

T- Turquoise is a colour I like
H- Honeycombs are my favourite cereal.

Now for the tagging
Louise,
Matthew ,
T.O.,
Kasia

2 February 2008

I got tagged by a book meme

Dim bulb tagged both of us with a meme. Here are the rules:

1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.

Grabbing a book at random off the bookshelf- it turns out to be Chaucer- here goes:

"Herde al tis thyng Criseyde wel inough,
And every word gan for to notifie:
For which with sobre cheere hire herte lough,
For who is that ne wolde hire glorifie,
To mowen swich a knyght don lyve or dye?
But al passe I, lest ye to longe dwelle;
For for o fyn is al that evere I telle.
The tyme com fro dyner for to ryse,
and as hem aughte, arisen everichon."

Puff picked Nicholas Nickleby.

'We intend to win everything,' said he.

'Tilda has won something she didn't expect, I think, haven't you dear?' said Miss Squeers, maliciously.

'Only a dozen and eight, love,' replied Miss Price, affecting to take the question in a literal sense.

I'll leave the tagging for Puff...

Puff here:

Now for the tagging. Since this is one 'blog we will tag just 5 not 10:

Michael at Archangel's Pulpit

Brother AJK at Barque of Peter

LYL at Purcell's Chicken Voluntary

Rae at Quo Vadis?

Alan at The Sheepcat

I've been blessed

by Michael over at "Archangel's Pulpit" "and 'as with any blessing its effectiveness is directly proportional to how well it is passed on.'

It's simple in format: the recipient simply copies and pastes the following indented section when they become the recipient of a bloggin blessing themselves, as follows…

The idea… it’s a game of tag with a difference, rather than looking inwardly, we look outside ourselves and bless, praise and pray for one blog friend. By participating in this endeavour we not only make the recipient of the blessing feel valued and appreciated, but we are having some fun too. We’re going to see how far the bloggin’ blessings can travel around the world and how many people can be blessed! Recipients of a bloggin’ blessing may upload the above image to their sidebar if they choose to. If you recieve a bloggin’ blessin’ please leave a comment on this thread here so that we can rejoice in just how many blessings have been sent around the world!

I bless.... Dim Bulb because of his tireless work he does on his 'blog wherein he brings to all readers, most especially dull swords like me, deeper understanding of the texts on which he exigises, so that with the word of God explained, His will may be clearer. But because DimBulb does NOT "do Memes" I will bless another as well.

I bless .... Rae at Quo Vadis because I understand what it's like to be an academic and a Catholic. It is difficult to be true to God and the Church, when around you are alot of "smart" people " [Who] can't understand how a bright intelligent, university educated woman, like yourself, could possibly believe that crap."

I bless.... Sheepcat because he is trying to live according to God's will for him, as we all should.

I bless.... BroAJK because he is a religious who fulfulls God's will by teaching our young.

A Prayer for DimBulb, Rae, Sheepcat and BroAJK…may the blessing of Almighty God, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, come down upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.

+++

Now the rules: You can just cut and paste these too:

So, all Rae, Sheepcat, and Broajk now have to do is to;
a) bless 3 blog buddies each.
b) Include the ‘God Bless you’ image in their post.
c) Explain briefly why they are blessing the people they are blessing.
d) pray/include in the post the prayer for the recipients of the blessing.
e)The recipient/sender of a blessing should type in the com box of Deb's original post that a blessing has been sent to them so we can keep track of how many blessings are being given. For easy reference a link to her post will make it into Deb's sidebar. Sounds a bit confusing, I know. But it could be fun, we’ll soon see!
Thanks for playing along!
[As Michael points out. The carmelite way of thanking someone is "God reward you, as only He can" and so the above note of gratitude I would change to:
God reward you, as only He can, for playing and praying along.

God Bless you!

A larger ‘God Bless you’ image can also be sent as an E-Card from Credo Christian E-Cards website.

I've been tagged, by someone who Bear tagged.

I've been tagged by T.O for the Lucky Seven Meme
First the Rules:
1) Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2) Share 7 facts about yourself that you think most people don't know.
3) Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. ( I will dispense with this since Bear actually tagged all those I would have tagged.

i. I apparently have an IQ of 133

ii. I have two B.A.s (Ordinary) in Psych and (Honours) in English (Proves my intelligence)

iii. I spent a few years reading Tarot cards. (Proves my stupidity)

iv. I have permonitional dreams which let me know that someone is about to die, though I never know exactly who it is until s/he dies.

v. I wish my birthday was in July.

vi. I hated having my first name anglicized in school, because there were two other girls in my grade with the same version of my name, and I was always in class with one of them. It wasn't until High School that I got to use my Baptismal name again.

vii. I hate having my maiden surname anglicized.

As for tagging. Bear used all I could think of so

10 December 2007

Movies meme

KaleJ tagged me with the 100 movies meme, so here goes:

1. Your favorite five movies that are on the list:

In no particular order: Star Wars, Toy Story, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Psycho, and- because it's that time of year- It's a Wonderful Life.

2. Five movies on the list you didn’t like at all:

In no particular order again:

Gone with the Wind. My elder sister's favourite movie. We had to watch it every time it was on. She thought it was romantic. Frankly, I didn't give a darn.

Sound of Music. I was always rather amused by how the mother superior, after saying that singing was forbidden in the Abbey, breaks into full contralto to sing Climb Every Mountain.

Forest Gump. Oddest thing really. When I saw it I enjoyed every scene, but the first thing I thought when it was over was "What a chunk o' junk!"

Titanic. The ship sank. I got over it.

Goodfellas. Didn't like a second of it.

I could go on, but the meme says five.

3. Five movies on the list you haven’t seen but want to.

Can't say there are any.

4. Five movies on the list you haven’t seen and have no interest in seeing.

Tough call. Basically, any movie on the list I haven't seen. That includes: Swing Time, Easy Rider, Sunrise, Tootsie, Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?- oh wait, that's five.

5. Your favorite five movies that aren’t on the list:

Man for All Seasons- "I think none harm, I speak none harm, I do none harm, and if that be not enough to keep a man alive then in truth I longeth not to live. Nevertheless, it is not for the supremacy that this court seeks my blood, but because I would not bend to the marriage!"

Evil Dead II- my guilty pleasure. The over the top badness of the splatschtick schlock horror just makes me laugh.

The Empire Strikes Back- this is the Star Wars movie that should be on the list. It is superior to every other one in every way. And by the way, I am speaking of the Empire Strikes back that came out in the theatres in 1980, with the climactic, "No Luke, I am your father." Every man of a certain age has stood in front of the mirror and repeated those words. It is one of the regrets of my life that my voice never deepened enough to do a good James Earl Jones impression.

Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan- the finest of the Star Trek movies. It has a good villain, good fight scenes, a good tie to the series, and Spock's final sacrifice. Until they brought him back.

The Incredibles. I seem to be in a science fiction frame of mind tonight. I also notice that being a father has tamed my movie choices somewhat. Being a Dad, I watch movies with the kids a lot. I appreciate that Pixar and a few other companies have made some good movies I can watch with the kids. Samuel L Jackson's voice work deserved an Oscar, and I hope to live to shake hands with whoever wrote the "Honey, where's my supersuit?" scene.

Over to you Puff. Tag someone for me.

11 July 2007

I've been tagged too by Peter at Utter Muttering

Five reasons I love Jesus:

What Puff said.

Man and wife are one, you know.

I tag the next five readers of this blog. You know who you are!

Why I love Jesus

I've been tagged by T.O at LamLAND (back on July 9) I just found it today.

The rules
Those tagged will share 5 things they "love" about Jesus.
Those tagged will tag 5 other bloggers.
Those tagged will provide a link in the comments section here with their name so that others can read them.

WHY I LOVE JESUS.

1) HE loved me first.

2) HE suffered, was crucified, died, was buried, went to hell and back, and rose from the dead for me.

3) HE listens to me when I speak to HIM.

4) HE always answers my requests, though admittedly, He sometimes says "no"

5) HE has never forsaken me.

Okay, I'm tagging VoxCantor
Brian at Christus Vincit
Peter at Utter Muttering
Clamrampant
and YOU!

30 June 2007

Meme I took from Clam Rampant

1. How old will you be in 12 months?
Well, I'm older than my teeth and as young as my tongue, and in 12months that statement will still be operative.

2. Do you think you’ll be married by then?
Well, I 'm not planning on getting a divorce, and neither Bear nor I have no grounds for an annulment, so chances are pretty good I'll still be married.

3. What do you look forward to most in the next 3 months?
Spending lots and lots of time with the kids and then, thankfully, having them go back to school.
Latest Harry Potter book and Movie too

4. Who was the last person you called?
Elder's Organ Teacher, who is also my Italian student, regarding something from his lesson, Friday.

5. Who was the last person to call you?
Well, my mother-in-law was the last person to call our number, and I picked up the phone, but she was actually wanting to speak to Bear. The last person to call and I picked up or wanted to talk to me was my mother.

6. Do you prefer to call or text?
Call, it's faster, and I hate TLAs

9. Parents seperated/divorced/married?
Married since 1957 to each other.

10. When is the last time you saw your mom?
Wednesday, Younger and Elder's last day of school, I went to visit her while they were in school.

11. What happened at 11:00 p.m.?
How am I supposed to know?

13. How many cities/towns have you lived in?
One T.O.

14. Do you prefer shoes, socks, or bare feet?
Bare feet, but if I must wear shoes, low to non existant heels and no socks. Well I do wear socks from January to March.

15. Are you a social person?
Not really. Other people always seem to think that it's all about them.

16. What was the last thing you ate?
Bowl of Honeycombs (with milk)

17. Favorite ice cream?
Why is this is almost every meme? Chocolate.

18. What is your favorite dessert?
Italian rum cake, with the overly sweek white icing, and I have to have the flower on top.

19. What is your favorite TV show?
Kind of changes. Right now like CSIs. Of the three out there, I have to say, CSI:NY, because at least, that one has a decent actor in it. But that is changing to Without a Trace.

20. What kind of jelly do you like on your PB & J sandwich?
I don't eat PB or J. I east Nutella and that is best eaten alone on very soft bread, and a ice-cold glass of milk. I may now have to change-the-last-thing-I-ate answer.

21. Do you like coffee?
Yes, but unfortunately, since I have to lay off the caffeine, I now must have decaf. It doesn't taste the same. I grew up on Espresso. (It wasn't until I had to switch to decaf that I realised why decaf coffee was invented.)

22. How many glasses of water a day do you drink on average?
Cups I don't know, about 1 litre (+- 4 cups), I should be doubling that.

23. What do you drink in the morning?
Water, and coffee.

24. Would you rather kiss someone with or without a tongue?
Without.

27. Do you like to cuddle?
Odd , this is a tough question, let's just say: "I like to cuddle , yes," and leave it at that.

28. Any plans for this weekend?
Mass tomorrow, possibly the Indult Tridentine at St. Vincent de Paul, and then since Elder's Organ lesson has been cancelled (Canada Day) visit my mom, or go to Black Creek Pioneer Village. They always put a a good Dominion Day(Canada Day) event.

Italian (Guardiol dialect [from the town of Guardiaregia , CB (Molise) Italy]-fluently, Standard - adequately,) French - haltingly.
